10Carve Another Notch
©2003 Gibbens/Weston

In the end
I might learn not to start something.
Until then
You can carve another notch in my heart, darling.
You were looking for a fool
And I could play the part
Cause in this hard-knock school
I just won’t get smart.

When love’s understood
You don’t have to stray for it.
I took you for the goods
And now I’ll have to pay for it.
But it’s cheap at half the price
And I’d do the same thing any day.
If I only had a voice
That’s what I would say.

We liked the same things
And we’d read the same books,
And you liked your sins
And I liked your looks.
Perhaps a shade too pale
But sharper than a knife.
Now you know in great detail
The story of my life
But I wish you’d told the tale
Of how you met your wife.
How you met your wife…

I’m sure she’s very nice.
I bet she thinks you’re nice as well.
Though your heart’s as cold as ice,
Believe me I won’t tell.
Like a child I was enticed,
Like a nut I came out of my shell.
Took a short cut to paradise
But I found it goes through hell.

In the end
I might learn not to start something.
Until then
You can carve another notch in my heart, darling.
You were looking for a fool
And I could play the part
Cause in this hard-knock school
I just won’t get smart.
