Poison Ball
©2007 Gibbens/Weston

Once upon a time you could swim in the river,
Once upon a time you could play in the sea,
Once upon a time the air was sweet and
Once upon a time the dirt was clean.

I sometimes wish I was living
Once upon a time
But I don’t mind,
I’m glad to be living at all.
What kind of present
Shall we give the children?
Is it a wonderful world
Or a poison ball?

Is it a fuming mire or rivers of crystal?
Is it the lifeless waves or the plentiful tide?
Once upon a time there was ever after.
Once upon a time we could take our time to decide.

What kind of present
Shall we give the children?
Is it a wonderful world
Or a poison ball?

Once upon a time there was nothing but nature
Then once upon a time a spectacular creature
Dreamed of an unheard thing called the future,
Dreamed of an unheard thing called the future.

I sometimes wish I was living
Once upon a time
But I don’t mind,
I’m glad to be living at all.
What kind of present
Shall we give the children?
Is it a wonderful world
Or a poison ball?

Is it a wonderful world?
