Lay for the Day 18th
November
Steamboat
Willie, the first cartoon with a fully synchronised soundtrack, premiered
in New York on this day in 1928. Its hero was a mouse by the name of Mickey,
who became perhaps the most widely recognised fictional character in the
world.

Of Underground Mice
Your small worlds hard
Steel and noise
Grey as the filth that gathers
Under steel and noise
As you survive there
Steel and noise
I can here
Scutter from the warbling
rails
And rumble
Lunch on litter
Live by what we scatter
The deafening wheels
Are not so definitely real
As underground mice
