Lay for the Day
14th March

Albert Einstein was born on this day in 1879 in Ulm, Germany.

Light

Beyond the sphere of mist
and water, wind and weather
that green things have exhaled
for us, huddled together,
we conceive of space, discounting the grist
of dust, as an emptiness unassailed.
Yet from countless sources,
all ways, at a single pace,
the unseen light courses
and crosses without a trace,
not straying nor slowing unless it flies
against some intervening objectÕs face,
or in at the tombs of our eyes and dies,
becoming there the light we recognise.

John Gibbens, from Collected Poems
